FORMER NEW YORK CITY MAYOR DAVID DINKINS ENDORSES ZEAD RAMADAN FOR NEW YORK CITY COUNCIL, DISTRICT 7
NEW YORK, NY—Today, Former New York City Mayor David Dinkins declared his endorsement and support for Zead Ramadan as Councilmember for New York City’s 7th Council District.
“I have not seen another candidate who can bring together the vibrant and diverse people of the 7th Council District the way that Mr. Ramadan can. He will be a strong voice on the Council for progressive legislation and resources for a community that can greatly benefit.” said former New York City Mayor Dinkins
New York’s 7th City Council District is a unique and energetic community that encompasses parts of West Harlem/Hamilton Heights, Morningside Heights, Manhattan Valley, Washington Heights and the Upper West Side.
“I am overwhelmed and honored by the support that I am receiving from Mayor Dinkins. His leadership, courage and ability to unite the diverse communities of this city epitomize everything I wish to be as a servant of the people of the 7th City Council District.” said Ramadan.
Amongst the field of candidates, Zead’s history of leadership and impact on the district that he lives in and serves is unrivaled. As a member of the Northern Manhattan community for over 40 years, he knows and understands the needs of its’ people and has tirelessly advocated and fought to bring resources to his community.
He is a former twice elected Chair of Community Board 12-Manhattan and 15 year member. He has also served over 10 years on the Board of Directors for the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone, (UMEZ). He is the founding Chair of the Board of Directors for the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance (NoMAA) and is the Vice Co-Chair of the Washington Heights and Inwood Chamber of Commerce.
In addition, he is the Founding Chair of the Board of Directors of the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center and the former President of the Board of Directors of the New York Chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY)—a national Civil rights organization.. He was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the West Harlem Development Corporation. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Stony Brook University. He is fluent in Spanish, Arabic and English.
